HONOLULU (AP) — A law enforcement officer fatally shot a man in Honolulu’s Chinatown.
U.S. Marshals Service Hawaii district Deputy Chief Gary Yandell says the man was shot by a member of the agency’s fugitive task force.
Yandell declined to say who shot the man. He says that’s being investigated by the Honolulu Police Department. He says he doesn’t want to hurt or impede the investigation.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services spokeswoman Shayne Enright says paramedics responded to a report Tuesday of someone with gunshot wounds at Chinatown Gateway Plaza.
She says a man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene.
Yandell says the fugitive task force combines the resources of local, state and federal agencies to find most-wanted fugitives. He says members were following leads when the incident occurred.
