The Spring Jazz Series continues May 16 at the Volcano Art Center.

The May 16 event will feature legendary trombonist Slyde Hyde and special guest vocalist Yolee Hyde, whom will join the art center’s Jazz Ensemble with musical director Jr Volcano Choy on trumpet, keyboard and vocals; Reggie Griffin on guitar; Brian McCree on bass; and Bruce David on drums.

Slyde Hyde began playing trombone in the fourth grade and made his recording debut with the Stan Kenton Orchestra. He has played and recorded with Count Bassie, Woody Herman, Frank Sinatra, Herbie Hancock, Donna Summer, Carol King, Steely Dan, Tom Scott, The Temptations, and many more. He has also received four National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences MVP awards and has been inducted into the Rock &Roll/Jazz Hall of Fame.

Two shows will be offered, with a matinee at 4:30 p.m. and an evening performance at 7:30. Tickets for the matinee are $15 for Volcano Art Center members and $18 for nonmembers. Tickets for the evening show are $18 for art center members and $20 for nonmembers.

Tickets can be purchased online at volcanoartcenter.org. The deadline to purchase online is May 13. Tickets can also be purchased by calling 967-8222 or visiting Volcano Art Center’s Niaulani Campus within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The deadline to purchase via phone is May 15. Tickets, if still available, will also be sold at the door.
