HONOLULU — The attorney general is investigating Big Island Mayor Billy Kenoi and the $120,000 debt he’s accumulated on his government credit card while in office.
Hawaii News Now reports about a dozen subpoenas seek access to Kenoi’s credit card statements and the details of his travel-related expenses.
Kenoi says he paid back the cost of personal purchases he made with his government credit card, and isn’t in violation of misusing taxpayer dollars.
Peter Boylan is the termed-out mayor’s spokesman, and said in a statement that Kenoi expects to be served with the subpoenas this week.
