The Coordinated Services for the Elderly Program of the Elderly Activities Division will issue senior identification cards for seniors 60 years and older from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Walmart in Kailua-Kona.
Staff will also issue cards at the following locations: 11 a.m. to noon May 11 at Naalehu Community Center; 9 to 11 a.m. May 11 at Kohala CSE building, Kohala; 9 to 11 a.m. May 12, L. Yoshimatsu Senior Center, Waimea; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 19 at Yano Hall, Captain Cook; 1 to 4 p.m. May 19, Hale Hauoli Senior Center, Honokaa; and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 27 at West Hawaii Civic Center, Building B.

Waimea Outdoor Circle plans
annual meeting
Waimea Outdoor Circle’s annual luncheon/meeting will be May 16 at the Waikii Ranch Clubhouse. Information about the organization, its history and accomplishments will be discussed. A guest speaker will talk about Hawaii’s Blue Zone and there will be a short meeting and election of officers for 2015-16.
Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. followed by a buffet lunch provided by Red Water Cafe. Cost is $35 all inclusive with complimentary refreshments. For reservations, call 443-4482 or email wochawaii@gmail.com.
Mental health program begins Thursday
Healthy from Head to Toe, an annual Children’s Mental Health Awareness and National Foster Care Month event produced by the Kona Community Children’s Council, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and May 21 and 28 at Kealakehe Elementary School. The three-part event will feature a different presentation each evening aimed at raising awareness and providing information and support to families in the community. Dinner will be provided, and there will be activities and supervision available for children while adults attend the presentations. Each evening, bags filled with information on community resources will be given to families, and there will be drawings for door prizes.
On Thursday, “How to Be the Best Advocate You Can Be for Your Child” will be presented by Alice Bratton, parent partner with Hawaii Families As Allies.
On May 21, Teri Callaghan, co-founder of Light ON Foundation and licensed marriage and family therapist, will teach self-care for parents and ways of teaching and modeling self-care to keiki in a talk titled “Caring for Yourself, Caring for Others.”
In “Understanding What Kids Need to Succeed” on May 28, Kei-Lin Cerf, director of strategic community development, West Hawaii, University of Hawaii at Hilo/RCUH and Life Plan Institute Hawaii Island trainer, will present an introduction to the building blocks of healthy development — known as developmental assets — that help children grow up healthy, caring and responsible.
Suicide prevention meeting planned
West Hawaii Suicide Prevention Task Force meets from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday in the conference room at the West Hawaii Community Health Center on the corner of Hualalai Road and Kuakini Highway, Kailua-Kona. All are welcome to attend who have an interest in preventing suicide in the community and a willingness to join this collective effort to keep our family and friends safe from the threat of suicide.
Also, the task force will provide an emotional support group for family and friends who are grieving the loss of a loved one from suicide from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Full Life Center in Pottery Terrace at 75-5995 Kuakini Highway, Suite 432, Kailua-Kona.
