Konabob and Eke have been playing the Kailua-Kona music scene for about three years, sharing their relaxing and mellow music with the world. The duo, known formally as Bob Stoffer and Eke Kekauoha, plays every Sunday evening at sunset at Daylight Mind Coffee Co. off Alii Drive.
Konabob recently took some time to tell Big Island Entertainment Scene about the band.
Q: How do you describe your music to people?
A: “A perfect mix of music for sunset drinks, pupus and dinner by the sea.”
Q: Who would enjoy your music and why?
A: “Anyone who enjoys the sound of the Hawaiian steel guitar. Eke’s guitar and vocals are relaxing and mellow.”
Q: When did you start playing and what inspires you to continue playing?
A: “The first time we got together and played, we knew that we were a good match. We are “tuned in” to each other.”
Q: What are Konabob and Eke’s musical influences and why?
A: “Konabob was inspired by the music of steel guitar master Ken Emerson, the steel guitar greats of the 50s and 60s. and classic Hawaiian music groups like Hui Ohana. Eke Kekauoha has influences ranging from artists like Cecilio and Kapono to Neil Young, and contemporary artists as well, though he loves to play classic-style Hawaiian music, too.”
Q: How do you hope your music makes people feel?
A: “Happy and relaxed.”
