Performances for students’ play added

The Kealakehe Intermediate School’s production of DreamWorks’ “Shrek The Musical Jr.” has been extended.

Additional performances will be at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the school cafeteria.

Presale tickets are available for $5 for students and $8 general and a family pack is available for $20, which includes two student and two adult tickets. Tickets at the door are $6 students and $10 general admission.

Hoonani Productions, Positive Motion highlight Coconut Grove event

Live entertainment featuring Hoonani Productions and reggae sensation Positive Motion, among others, will highlight an afternoon of food, music and fun Saturday at Coconut Grove Marketplace in Kailua Village.

The fun gets underway at 1 p.m. at the sand courts with craft booths and entertainment through 5 p.m. Live entertainment includes Tahitian group Hoonani Productions, Brown Bags to Stardom winner One Rhythm, and reggae sensation, Positive Motion with special guests T-Pak and Siaki.

In addition, culinary students in middle school, high school and college will be competing in our Coconut Dessert Challenge with the winner will receiving a $150 Visa Card.

Earlier in the day, Jack’s Diving Locker will hold its 11th annual Ocean Fair Sales event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. During the fair, free introductory dives, snorkel lessons and marine education presentations will be offered. A reservation is required for the dives and snorkel lessons.

Drawings for prizes from Coconut Grove Marketplace merchants and other local businesses will also be held throughout the day.

West Hawaii County Band plans free concert

The West Hawaii County Band will offer a free concert on May 8 at Hale Halawai in Kailua-Kona.

The concert, “A Tribute to Youth,” runs from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation facility located off Alii Drive, just south of Hualalai Road. The county invites all to attend this drug- and alcohol-free event. Seating will be available.

Conductor Lisa Archuletta, who received her music degree from the University of Hawaii and her master’s from the Yale University School of Music.
