HONOLULU — The University of Hawaii has launched a phone application to keep students safe.
KITV-TV reports the Manoa Guardian app offers texting between students and campus security as well as a GPS safety feature.
When students are walking they can set a timer for how long they expect it to take and where they are going. If they have not turned off the timer, selected guardians such as the UH Department of Public Safety or parents will be notified that they have not checked in.
Officers would then call the student to make sure they’re safe. If there were no answer, security would be notified of the student’s location.
The app is only available to those with a UH Manoa email address. It was launched for android and iOS Wednesday.
