HONOLULU — A panel of Hawaii lawmakers has approved a plan that paves the way for Maui hospitals to enter into a partnership deal.
A conference committee of senators and representatives passed the bill late Tuesday.
Rep. Della Au Bellati says the version of the bill passed by the committee adds back some employee protections that were stripped from a recent version.
The House was previously poised to approve the bill without employee protections, but then Gov. David Ige intervened to delay the vote.
The latest version also requires the Maui hospital system to re-solicit proposals from any party interested in a potential partnership.
The bill has to be approved by the full Legislature and then it would go to Ige for his signature.
