Aloha Performing Arts Company will hold auditions April 26 and 27 for its upcoming production of “Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr.”
The auditions are limited to thespians younger than age 18. Auditions will be held at 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, and Monday, April 27, at Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu; invitational call backs are expected Tuesday, April 28.
“Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr.” will run from June 12 through June 21 under the direction of Aloha Teen Theatre president Mia Kriebl-Bruno.
Those auditioning should prepare 32 measures (or 60 seconds) of a song from any Broadway musical. There will be an accompanist at the audition. Printed sheet music in the proper key, for the pianist, is required. Those needing help finding sheet music may email musicteacher.megan@gmail.com for assistance. No recorded tracks or a capella (singing without piano) allowed. Those without a prepared song will be asked to sing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.”
In addition to a song, a 30- to 60-second monologue is required. Although memorization is preferred, it is not mandatory. Those unfamiliar with the process of choosing a monologue may email musicteacher.megan@gmail.com or info@apachawaii.org for assistance.
Auditions will be held in small groups and participants will be taught a short dance routine in that group. Modest clothing and shoes appropriate for dancing are recommended.
Rehearsals for the June shows will be held most Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons from April 29 until the show opens. Each cast member may not be asked to attend every rehearsal, but should plan on being available for all rehearsals and performances. A signature from a parent or guardian is also required on the forms.
Audition forms and consent forms are available online at apachawaii.org.
