HONOLULU — Thousands of additional jobs are expected across Hawaii in the coming years.

That’s according to the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations. The department announced Monday it is forecasting statewide employment to expand by 2.9 percent by 2016. That amounts to nearly 20,000 jobs.

The department says construction will see the fastest growth at 8.5 percent, or more than 2,500 jobs.

The forecasts use first quarter 2014 employment for the base year and employment is projected to the first quarter of 2016.
