Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 12112, located behind Kona Locksmith off Kaiwi Street, will host the following events:
Lee Stewart will perform on keyboard for listening and dancing from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday. The post is closed Monday. Free coffee will be offered for veterans at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. The Coast Guard Auxiliary meets at 6 p.m. Thursday. Friday will feature Skip’s pizza starting at 4 p.m. The cost is $5. VFW Auxiliary meets at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
A dinner of sockeye salmon flown in from Alaska will be served with corn on the cob, potatoes au gratin, a vegetable, bread and desert starting at 4 p.m. Saturday until the food is gone for $25. Installation of officers will be conducted. Reservations are required by calling 326-5675.

Turtle talk is Tuesday
Kahaluu Bay Education Center turtle biologist Rachel Silverman will offer a talk story about Hawaiian green sea turtles from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the park’s large pavilion.
Attendees will learn about the types of turtles found in Hawaii, why they are important to the ecosystem, what threats they face, and how to protect them.
A $10 donation is requested to support education and conservation programs at Kahaluu Bay. Attendees receive a free informational turtle card.

hosts book clubs
The Kona Stories fiction book club meets at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to discuss “Someone” by Alice McDermott. The nonfiction book club will gather at 6 p.m. April 28 to discuss “1492: The Year the World Began” by Felipe FernAndez-Armesto.
The fiction book club meets the second Tuesday of each month and the nonfiction group meets the fourth Tuesday at Kona Stories in Keauhou Shopping Center. Book clubs are free if the books are purchased at Kona Stories. Otherwise, cost is $5. Attendees may bring a pupu or beverage to share.

Jardine completes basic training
Air Force Airman 1st Class Kamiana K. Jardine graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Jardine is the son of Yolan Jardine of Naalehu and Damien Jardine of Waikoloa and nephew of Kwai-Chang Akiu, Kimo Akiu and Augustine Akiu Jr., all of Waiohinu.
He is a 2009 graduate of Kamehameha Schools Hawaii, Keaau.
