A state House bill that aims to create a regulated medical marijuana dispensary system throughout Hawaii made progress Wednesday.
A representative from Sen. Gilbert Keith-Agaran, chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Labor that oversaw the bill yesterday along with the Committee on Ways and Means, said House Bill 321 passed with amendments.
If passed, the bill would establish a system of medical marijuana dispensaries and production centers throughout the state while prohibiting counties from enacting certain zoning regulations that discriminate against licensed dispensaries and production centers. The legislation also clarifies the right of qualifying patients and primary caregivers to transport medical marijuana and would appropriates funds.
The bill is slated for conferences later this month.
