HONOLULU — The Honolulu Police Department has 12 breathalyzers used to check motorists suspected of driving under the influence, but five of the devices have been broken.

HONOLULU — The Honolulu Police Department has 12 breathalyzers used to check motorists suspected of driving under the influence, but five of the devices have been broken.

Police say they are buying three new devices for $8,500 apiece. The machines have not yet arrived.

Honolulu news station Hawaii News Now reports the devices at Pearl City, Kalihi, Wahiawa and Kahuku stations were down over a three-month period.

The breathalyzer at the Kahuku is still broken.
