Flag football in Kohala
Registration for boys and girls ages 5-15 in Kohala for flag football will be April 13 and April 15 from 4-5 p.m at Hisaoka Gym.
Practices will start the first week of May. Registration is free and includes uniform.

Brantley Center golf tournament
The 37th annual Brantley Center golf tournament be held at the Big Island Country Club on April 26th. Check-in is at 7:15 a.m. Shotgun start will be at 8 a.m.
Format will be two-person best ball modified. Entry fee is $125 and includes: green fee, cart, prizes and luncheon. Hole in one contest for $10,000 will also be held.

Golf For Kids tournament
The Golf For Kids Golf Tournament, presented by Hawaii Island Young Life, will be April 24th at the Big Island Country Club. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. and shotgun start is at 7:30 a.m.
Format is a two-person scramble. Entry fee is $95 and includes: green fee, cart fee, snacks, prizes and awards luncheon. Young Life is a non-profit youth outreach program. For more information call Lane at 896-0622, Angel at 969-9074.
First Tee program starting up at Makalei
The First Tee Hawaii program will start a new session at Makalei Hawaii on April 12.
Registration begins at 2 p.m. at the clubhouse.
Program is one hour and classes start at 3 p.m. Registration fee for the session is $25 per child. Ages are 7-18 years old.
First Tee teaches about the game, including rules, skills and life values on and off the course.

Special Olympics Torch Run
First Hawaiian Bank and Hawaii Police Department are partnering to sponsor the 30th annual Troy Barboza Law Enforcement Torch Run/Walk on April 11th. It is a benefit for Special Olympics West Hawaii.
The Troy Barboza Law Enforcement Torch Run is a noncompetitive run/walk, and the purpose is to raise awareness and funds for the athletes of Special Olympics Hawaii. The event is named after fallen Honolulu Police Officer Troy Barboza, who volunteered as a Special Olympics coach and participated in the first Torch Run in Hawaii held in 1985.
The event begins at 8:30 a.m. on April 11th at First Hawaiian Bank in Kailua-Kona.
Donations of $30 are requested and donors will receive a 2015 commemorative Torch Run shirt. Sizes and styles are limited. Interested participants should call Sharon Yong at 756-2186 for entry form, or email sowhdenise@gmail.com.
Kai Opua Businessmen’s Regatta and Dog Paddle
The Kai Opua 16th annual Businessmen’s Regatta is April 19. Participants are invited to join the fun for a day on the water and show their company’s team spirit.
Early registration is $110 per six-person crew. Race day registration is $120 entry fee per six-person crew. Double-hull entry fees are discounted if also entering six-person events. Entry fee includes a lunch and awards sponsored by Huggo’s and Corona.
New this year is the inaugural Dog Paddle. One dog, one human and one stand-up paddle board. Dog paddle is at 9 a.m. and it is a $15 entry.

Hawaii Cycling Club Century ride
The Hawaii Cycling Club’s second annual Hawaii Century, a benefit for North Hawaii Hospice, is April 12, starting and ending at Spencer Beach Park.

There will be three ride distances: 110 miles, 64 miles and 30 miles. More inexperienced cyclist could choose the 30 miler.
The 64-mile route covers the IRONMAN 70.3 Hawaii course and gives athletes a great training ride.
Experienced riders could take up the challenge of the 110 mile course.
The rides are not competitive and times are not kept.
The Century is fully supported with aid stations approximately every 20 miles, SAG and after-ride party and food.
The Century entry fee is $50 until April 10 then $60 for race day registration.

Waimea Athletics hosting “Super Sunday Slam”
Waimea Athletics will host a free youth clinic featuring the University of Hawaii at Hilo baseball and softball programs on April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Waimea Park.

Updates: Emily has updates on the Daniel Sayre Foundation’s recent gifting from Bank of Hawaii for the purchase of two all-terrain vehicles for Punaluu Beach and Hapuna Beach State Park. The ATVs have the capability to quickly carry life-saving equipment and supplies to drowning victims and spinal cord injury victims, which assists in the life-saving measures provided by Hawaii County Fire Department.
She will also have updates on the 30th Troy Barboza Law Enforcement Run/Walk this Saturday at 8 a.m. from First Hawaiian Bank. Roy Fujimoto Scholarships
Applications are being accepted for the 13th annual Roy Fujimoto Senior Scholarships.
The scholarships, sponsored by KTA Super Stores and the Big Island Interscholastic Federation, will go to four graduating seniors in recognition of their BIIF athletic accomplishments, academic record and community service. An independent committee will select each of the recipients, who will receive $1,500 college scholarships. Recipients can use the funds to offset the cost of tuition, books, and room and board expenses.
Eligibility
The selection committee will consider current high school seniors who will attend a college/university in the fall. The student/athletes must attend a BIIF high school and participate in BIIF sports.
Qualities considered
• Athletic achievement, which shall include contributions to the team; versatility in BIIF sports; sportsmanship and dedication; and character and behavior, on and off the field.
• Academic record, which shall include grade point average throughout high school, high school course load and SAT/ACT scores.
• Community service, which shall include school activities outside of athletics and involvement in the Big Island community.
Nominations
The selection committee will only accept official BIIF senior scholarship nomination forms.
Students must submit the following items:
• A typed nomination form signed by the student’s school principal and athletic director
• An official transcript and SAT/ACT scores
• A personal statement no longer than 200 words.
• Letters of reference (two maximum)
• A photograph (preferably a head-and-shoulder senior portrait)
The selection committee will not accept stapled or incomplete applications.
Students may include supporting material on six one-sided sheets (81/2 inches by 11 inches) of paper. Enclose all materials, including nomination forms, personal statements, letters of reference and photographs in one package.
Students must submit complete applications (find mailing address on nomination form) by 5 p.m. April 29.
The selection committee will not accept materials submitted via facsimile transmission or applications received after April 29.
Applications are available in each BIIF school’s athletic director’s office.
Application deadline is April 27.
