Auditions for ‘Sunshine Boys’ slated
Waimea Community Theatre has announced auditions for “The Sunshine Boys,” written by Neil Simon. Dave Merrin is directing this comedy. Rick Turnbow is the assistant director.
Auditions will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. April 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. April 6 at the Waimea Community Theatre’s office, 65-1290 Kawaihae Road, behind Hawaiian Style Cafe in Waimea.
Merrin will be casting these characters: two old former vaudeville comics, Willie and Al; two adult men, Ben and Eddie; one patient; one comedy sketch nurse with cleavage; and one stern home care nurse.
Performance dates are May 22, 23, 24, 29, 30 and 31 at Parker Theater.

APAC theater classes planned
Aloha Performing Arts Company will resume its roster of theater education opportunities for all ages in April.
Jerry Tracy’s Tuesday Troupers class for those 8 through 12 years old will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. for six Tuesdays. April 21 through May 26. A free public performance will be held at 5 p.m. on the last day. Students will work on developing and maintaining the tools and skills required for performing on the stage. Tracy will be assisted by Aloha Teen Theatre member Riley Newton. Tuition is $60 per student.
Megan Hodge will continue APAC’s Keiki Theatre class for 3- to 7-year-olds from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays, April 22 through May 13. The introduction to theater basics features theater games, building characters and gaining confidence. There will be four meetings, with a sharing show on the final day. Tuition is $40 per student.
Felicity Johnson fires up her “Intergenerational Acting” class for all ages from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursdays, April 23 through May 28. No experience is required. A free public show will be offered on the final class day. Tuition is $60 per student, based on $10 per class.
Classes will be held at Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu.
In addition, Hodge continues as interim adviser for Aloha Teen Theatre, which meets from 4 to 6 p.m. every Friday at the APAC Loft, across the street from Aloha Theatre, on the second floor of the building housing King’s Daughters Thrift Shop. Participation is free and open to ages 13 to 19. Educational as well as performance and travel opportunities are in the plans for the coming year.
