Catherine Harast

Catherine “Kay” Harriet Harast, 91, of Pahoa died March 19, 2015, at home. Born March 20, 1923, in Chicago, she was a retired obstetric ward clerk for Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan, Ill., member and office assistant for Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church, volunteer for Hilo Medical Center and the hospital auxiliary, member and past Advisory Council Chairperson of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program and member of the Seniors Nutrition Club. She was chosen as the Outstanding Older American in 1995.

Friends may call at 3 p.m. March 27 at Dodo Mortuary, Hilo for a 5 p.m. service. Friends may also call at 8 a.m. March 28 at Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. Mass. Cremation will follow. Family requests casual attire be worn. Flowers are welcomed. Donations may be made to Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Hilo Medical Center Foundation.

She is survived by sons, Kenneth (Sara Jo) Gogots of Illinois, Frank (Alice) Harast of Georgia; daughters, Janis Willis of Florida, Susan Kinzie of New Mexico; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Minoru Nakasato

Minoru “Mino” Nakasato, 88, of Kapaau died Feb. 11, 2015, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Kohala, he was an Army veteran, a diesel mechanic for the former Kohala Sugar Co., a retired macadamia nut farmer, member of the Kohala Senior Citizen Club, Kohala Okinawa Kenjin Kai, and Hawi Jodo Mission.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. March 28 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for an 11 a.m. service. A private committal service will be held at a later date. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers. In lieu of monetary gifts, donations may be made to the Hawi Jodo Mission.

He is survived by sons, Lester (Jean) Nakasato of Honolulu, Elmer Nakasato of Hawi, Ralph (Wendy) Nakasato of Sun Prairie, Wis., daughters, Elsie (Larry) Wipperman of Kohala, Grace (Ronald) Nishimura of Hilo, Janet (Harry) Domen of Mililani, Oahu, Frances (Jimmy) Swingler of Kilgore, Texas, Edith (Larry) Asato of Hilo; brother, Shotoku (Ruby) Nakasato of Kaneohe, Oahu; sisters, Yuriko Kato of Hawaiian Paradise Park, Toshiko Kato of Honolulu, Tomie Miyashiro of Hawi, Janet Shizuko Kimura of Sacramento, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Dustin Lewis

Dustin Kalewa Lewis, 32, of Kailua-Kona died March 15, 2015. He was born Sept. 16, 1982, in Hilo.

Private services will be held March 29. Call family for more information.

He is survived by mother, Kendra (Ricky) Kamimura; brothers, Keegan Whaley, Jacob Kamimura; grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
