LIHUE — Authorities are reporting a fourth visitor has drowned this year off Hawaii’s Kauai Island.

Lihue newspaper The Garden Island reports 74-year-old Jake Jelinek of Colorado died Tuesday afternoon.

Officials say Jelinek appeared to have hit his head on a reef after he had difficulty swimming in large waves at Keoneloa Bay in Poipu.

CPR was performed on Jelinek, who was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Jelinek was the fourth Kauai visitor drowning so far in 2015 and the third since Saturday, when 72-year-old Michael Stone of Boston died after appearing to be in distress offshore Wailua.

On Sunday, 48-year-old David Deville of Arizona died after showing signs of distress off Mahaulepu Beach in Poipu.
