Judiciary Complex design a disgrace

Judiciary Complex design a disgrace

On the front page of the West Hawaii Today newspaper March 12 is a picture of a disgraceful looking, huge, new multimillion-dollar building for Kona. Grade school students could have designed this building, and even then it would be considered ugly and/or boring. Is it true that we just do not have any decent architectural designers on the Big Island? The terrible looking judiciary structure is a shamefully ugly in appearance and a wasted use of millions of our dollars.

There was no mention of the designer’s name in the newspaper article and I can imagine why that is. He must be hiding behind a door somewhere. This is listed as part of the “single largest items in the state budget” and as such is something that Kona would be ashamed of for years to come. Of course, this is designed to be one of the last memories for the criminals in which they would be judged and sent off to prison. After all, this is uglier than the average prison here or elsewhere.

We residents of Kona are proud of our state and our special island, but with the addition of ugly buildings of this sort we would have to hang our heads in shame when visitors are being shown around the Big Island.

Mahalo for the help at Kua Bay

On March 7, my sister took our family to Kua Bay. While there swimming I got stuck in chest deep water near the rocky north end of the bay and couldn’t get out. Every time I tried to walk toward the shore, the waves would knock me off my feet. I waved for my sister for help. She ask people on the beach for help. Two gentlemen were kind enough get in the water to tell me how to get out safely.

I am so grateful for their willingness to help me out safely. It could have ended badly for me.
