HONOLULU — Honolulu police say a man who became combative has died following his arrest.
Hawaii News Now reports the man was identified as 38-year-old Sheldon Haleck.
Police have said officers used a stun gun and pepper spray on an unruly man as he tried to evade authorities Monday evening.
Police say officers responded to an area near Iolani Palace for a report about a man acting erratically.
Police say the man refused to leave the roadway where he was running and that pepper spray and a stun gun used on him were ineffective. Police say officers gained control of the man after he fell while trying to flee.
Authorities say the man suddenly became responsive and was taken to Queen’s Medical Center, where he died.
