A-Mazing Triangle Workshop at Volcano Art Center

Join instructor Charlene Asato for a three-hour “A-Mazing Triangle Workshop” at Volcano Art Center on March 21 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Attendees of the “A-Mazing Triangle Workshop” will spend the morning creating triangular books. They’ll also learn different ways to turn a single piece of paper into triangular pages. Students will also get to explore various maze patterns that result in remarkable sculpture books. Bookbinding experience is not necessary.

Cost is $35 or $32 for art center members, plus a $10 supply fee.

Participants should bring the following tools: cutting mat or dense cardboard, X-acto knife with new No. 11 blade or similar tool, metal-edged ruler, bone folder or non-serrated butter knife, pencil, eraser, glue stick, scissors, discarded catalog or magazine for gluing surface. Any art supplies such as colored pencils, crayons, markers, watercolor, photographs for collaging, scraps of decorative paper, etc.

Magic Spectacular slated March 28

The 29th Annual Magic Spectacular at the Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu will be held on March 28. The longest-running magic show in the islands is presented by Society for Kona’s Education and the Art and the Big Island Magic Club.

This year’s event features the “Magic of Sterling Dietz” as well as local favorites Arnie “Arneleo the Great” Rabin, Barry “the Great Barusky” Gitelson, and Bruce and Jennifer Meyers. Shows are at 2:30 and 7 p.m., tickets prices $10 children, $15 adults. Tickets available at Patels, Kona Stories, Kiernan Music, Kona Bay Books, and SKEA office by calling 328-9392. Proceeds benefit SKEA.

Waimea Community Theatre announces performances

Waimea Community Theatre is soon to perform two funny, silly, who-done-it mysteries at the Parker Theater in Waimea.

These two one-acts were written by the acclaimed playwright Tom Stoppard and will be performed back to back. “After Magritte” will be first and “The Real Inspector Hound” will follow after a short intermission. The fun starts on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and will run for two weekends with performances on Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 3 p.m. The show then moves to Honokaa People’s Theater on March 28 at 7 p.m. and March 29 at 2 p.m.
