HONOLULU — A former Honolulu girls’ school teacher must spend a year in jail for the sexual assault of a 15-year-old student.

William Plourde will never be able to teach again and must register as a sex offender. Honolulu news station Hawaii News Now reports he admitted he pursued a relationship with the Sacred Hearts Academy student, sexually assaulting her in a car and in a classroom.

Honolulu news station KHON-TV reports the teen tearfully spoke at his sentencing Wednesday, saying the ordeal left her emotionally scarred.

Honolulu news station KITV reports prosecutors are disappointed he didn’t receive a longer sentence.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser newspaper reports Plourde turned himself in after the girl’s father showed up at his apartment and threatened to throw him over the balcony.
