Police have identified a suspect in a suspicious church fire in Captain Cook last Thursday. No arrests have yet been made in the suspected arson case, police said.
Officers responding to the report of the 6:01 a.m. fire at the Seventh Day Adventist Church found firefighters battling the blaze, with the north rear entrance of the building engulfed in flames.
Images from a surveillance camera at the scene showed a tall Caucasian male, believed to be in his 50s, with light hair, a receding hairline and mustache. The man appeared to be partially covering his head with a light-colored sweater or sweat shirt.
Firefighters determined the blaze had been deliberately set, and detectives opened an arson investigation into the case.
The damage to the north side of the church was estimated at more than $80,000.
