A project to improve the accessible passenger loading zone for buses parking at Wailuku River State Park, Rainbow Falls section, begins Monday, according to the state Department of Land and Natural Resources.

The improvements include relocating the loading zone away from vehicular flow and a more durable concrete pad. This project will allow those with disabilities a safer, properly designed access to the Rainbow Falls lookout area. Project contractor is Ludwig Construction and the cost is $87,600.

During this 180-day project, parking will be extremely tight.

“We ask the public’s assistance and understanding,” said State Parks director Dan Quinn. “Safety will be of our utmost concern in directing vehicles to parking locations and limiting parking. We will also be notifying the local tour operators so they can plan accordingly.”
