HONOLULU — Gov. David Ige has extended the disaster emergency relief period for areas impacted by the lava flow on the Big Island.
The extension suspends some laws to help ease emergency response.
Ige says the state stands ready to support Hawaii County as it responds to the lava flow. He says the lava isn’t just going to go away.
The emergency period had been set to expire on March 6. It is now extended until December 31.
Ige’s staff announced the extension on Tuesday.
