Eleanor Hutchinson

Eleanor Victoria Kapua Hutchinson, 93, of Hilo died Jan. 10, 2015. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired postal clerk and a past member of the Kailua Hawaiian Civic Club in Kailua, Oahu.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. March 6 at the Thy Word Ministries Faith Center, 2085 Awapuhi St. in Hilo, for a service, followed by visitation at 11 a.m. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. March 18 at the Valley of the Temples Memorial Park, 47-200 Kahekili Highway in Kaneohe, Oahu.

She is survived by son, Gustav Bechert II of Honolulu; daughters, Henrietta (Stan) Bechert-Wong of Volcano, Daphne Fabisiak of Hilo; brother, Vernon (Veronica) Santos of Honolulu; sister, Yvonne Souza of Honolulu; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Karen Rhodes

Karen Marguerite Rhodes, 63, of Mountain View died Dec. 7, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born July 11, 1951. in Ferndale, Mich., she was a retired student aide.

Services will be held in Michigan. Online condolences may be posted at homelanimemorialpark.com.

She is survived by son, Jason Rhodes-Janto of Ithaca, N.Y.; sisters, Betty Jo (Leonard) Rhodes-Gadzinski of Sterling Heights, Mich., Deanna (Lewis) Rhodes-Fedon of Auburn Hills, Mich.; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mark Dunn

Mark Spencer Dunn, 58, of Millsboro, Del., died Feb. 24, 2015, at his daughter’s home. Born Oct. 20, 1956, in Philadelphia, he was a retired business owner.

Private services were held.

He is survived by daughter, Cabrey (Nathan George) Dunn of Kailua-Kona; son, Matthew (Emily) Dunn of Havertown, Pa.; mother, Audrey Mangiardi of Sedona, Ariz.; brother, Steven (Pamela) Dunn of Havertown, Pa.; one grandson.

Stella Akana

Stella Kaaua Akana, 96, of Waimea died Feb. 17, 2015, at her residence. Born Aug. 18, 1918, in Waimea, she was co-owner of Akana Petroleum, Harbor Fuels and A &S Farms, co-founder and member of Ka Hui Kapa Apana O Waimea Quilt Club, member of Annunciation Catholic Church Waimea, Kaahumanu Society, Hawaii Cattlemen’s Association, Hawaiian Girls Golf Club. She was also a former employee of Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, Parker Ranch, Hawaii Preparatory Academy and Alexander &Baldwin.

Private services were held. Memorial donations may be made to North Hawaii Hospice or Annunciation Church of Waimea.

She is survived by sons, Richard (Aulani) Akana of Kawaihae, Albert (Shirley) Akana of Keauhou, Spencer (Kim Kishi) Akana of Waimea; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Dickie Ueno

Dickie Shigeto Ueno, 86, of Hilo died Feb. 7, 2015, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born April 3, 1928, in Hilo, he was retired and an Army veteran.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

He is survived by brothers, Tsutomu (Emi) Ueno of Hilo, Kenneth (Sue) Ueno of San Diego; sister, Sadae (Kazumasa) Taira of Hilo; nieces and nephews.
