HONOLULU (AP) — Negus Webster-Chan had a career-high 20 points on Thursday night, and Hawaii gave Long Beach State its fifth straight loss 78-59.
Roderick Bobbitt added 15 points, Garrett Nevels had 14 points and nine rebounds and Stefan Jankovic scored 12.
Hawaii (19-11, 7-7 Big West) squandered most of its 10-point halftime advantage but pulled away in the latter part of the second half.
Bobbitt’s alley oop to Nevels made it a 14-point lead with 9:14 left and Nevels followed with a jumper to push Hawaii’s run to 11 straight points at 58-42. Long Beach State (13-16, 7-6) was unable to get back within single digits.
Long Beach State opened the second half with a 7-0 run to close within three and stayed tight with Hawaii for the first eight minutes of the period, trailing 47-42 with 12:05 left.
Branford Jones had 12 points and Mike Caffey 11 to lead the 49ers.
