The earthquake was recorded at 3:45 a.m. Hawaii time, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. The Flores Sea is bordered by the Lesser Sunda Islands and Celebes within Indonesia.

Based on all available data, a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami was not generated, according to the center.
