The Waimea Arts Council’s Firehouse Gallery will host its annual “New Artists” show from Jan. 7 through 27. The show introduces artists to the community who are new to the council, but are accomplished in their arts. A reception will be held From 5 to 7 p.m. Jan. 10.

Participants include Marie Kinchla, who works in pastels and oils; Machi Dilworth with her watercolors; Dennis Cigainero, who does metal and recycle art creations; Anna Sullivan, mostly mixed media; Brenda Meriwether with ceramic tiles and Helen Nahoopii, who creates ancient modern jewelry using natural stones, semi-precious stones and gems to create unique, one of a kind wearable art.

Also continued into January are small solo shows in the back gallery featuring Janice Gail using a variety of media; Julie McCue’s watercolors; Norma Watt using oil; Merna J, Watta in acrylic and watercolors; Terry Bensch and his oil paintings and pencil drawings; and Susie Cysewski with her oil paintings.

A portion of the affordable art that was on display in December will be held over until Jan. 17 .

Waimea Arts Council is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the arts on Hawaii Island. The Firehouse Gallery, located in the old Waimea firehouse at 67-1202 Mamalahoa Highway at the intersection with the Kawaihae Road, in Waimea, is the council’s most visible project. The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
