HALEIWA — The picturesque town of Haleiwa on Oahu’s North Shore now has a new pedestrian walkway.
Haleiwa has long been a destination for surfers and tourists. But it hasn’t always been the easiest to navigate by foot.
The sidewalk improvement was done by Kamehameha Schools. It’s part of a one-mile stretch of revitalization in the town.
Kamehameha Schools is in the midst of a $16 million redevelopment of the Haleiwa Store Lots. The pedestrian walkway cost about $700,000.
Kamehameha Schools’ senior land asset manager Kalani Fronda says the school has deep roots in the community. Fronda says he wants to ensure that the community benefits from the work.
