HONOLULU — A Honolulu police officer charged with sexual assault has pleaded not guilty.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports 30-year-old Nicholas K.H. Masagatani pleaded not guilty Monday in state Circuit Court to two counts of second-degree sexual assault and one count of attempted fourth-degree assault.

Masagatani is free on $20,000 bail. He and his attorney left the hearing without comment.

State prosecutors say Masagatani on Aug. 2 assaulted a woman in his Pauoa home.

The woman immediately filed a complaint. Masagatani was arrested that day at his home.

The Honolulu Police Department after Masagatani’s arrest took away his police powers and put him on restricted duty.

His trial is set for February.
