Recent decreases in bunker fuel prices has prompted Matson to drop its fuel-related surcharge by 2 percentage points.
The decrease takes the surcharge from 37.5 percent to 35.5 percent for its Hawaii service, from to 38 percent to 36 percent for Guam/Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands service and from 43 percent to 41 percent for Micronesia service. The decrease went into effect on Friday, according to the company.
Matson says the downward adjustment to the fuel surcharge would result in a reduction in shipping costs ranging from $40 to $70 per container for most customers.
Matson’s last adjustment to its fuel surcharge for Hawaii and Guam/CNMI services on Nov. 2 was a decrease of 5 percentage points.
