The earthquake occurred at 10:55 p.m. Hawaii time near the border between Panama and Costa Rica, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. It had a registered depth of about 6.2 miles.
Based on all available data, a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no threat of tsunami to Hawaii.
