The state Department of Land and Natural Resources will reopen portions of Lava Tree State Monument on a limited basis beginning Monday.

The state Department of Land and Natural Resources will reopen portions of Lava Tree State Monument on a limited basis beginning Monday.

The public will be able to visit most of the viewable lava tree molds, the main pavilion and the informational kiosk. The parking lot, comfort station and front portion of the loop trail will also be available for public use, according to DLNR.

The park has been closed because of numerous albizia trees blown down during Tropical Storm Iselle in August, which park crews have been working to address. The cost of repairs and cleanup in the park so far has been $88,045.

The back portion of the park will remain closed until further notice.

“We ask that the public respect the closed areas as dangerous conditions may be encountered in those areas,” said Dean Takebayashi, Hawaii district parks superintendent.
