The Puna Geothermal Venture Plant on Monday reported a steam release from the plant’s reinjection system at 7:30 a.m., according to Hawaii County Civil Defense.

The event lasted about one minute, Civil Defense Director Darryl Oliveira said, noting that the leak was likely the result of a faulty seal.

Emergency crews from PGV and the Hawaii County Fire Department both subsequently determined that no hydrogen sulfide was released.

No action or evacuation is needed, according to Civil Defense.
