On Monday, police responded to a 3 p.m. report of a verbal argument in Hawaiian Beaches. When they arrived, they learned a 25-year-old Puna man had reportedly gotten into a domestic argument with his parents and damaged their vehicle, broken two windows to their house and set fire to their living room carpet. The parents were able to extinguish the fire, according to the Hawaii Police Department.
At 3:40 p.m., police located the son, Anthony-James Murray of Pahoa, a short distance away. He was arrested and taken to the Hilo police cellblock while detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section continued the investigation.
At 2:50 p.m. Wednesday, detectives charged him with abuse, second-degree criminal property damage and third-degree arson. His bail was set at $5,000. He remained at the cellblock until his initial court appearance on Friday.
