Hawaii Island police arrested 24 motorists for allegedly driving under the influence of an intoxicant between Nov. 10 and Sunday. Six of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes and one was younger than 21, according to the Hawaii Police Department.
So far this year, there have been 1,026 DUI arrests, compared with 1,159 during the same period in 2013.
Kona officers arrested nine motorists while South Hilo officers arrested seven and Puna officers five. South Kohala officers arrested three motorists.
There have been 1,362 major accidents in 2014, compared with 1,185 during the same period last year.
So far this year, there have been 11 traffic fatalities on Hawaii Island, compared with 24 during the same period in 2013.
To date, three fatalities were related to drugs and three were related to a combination of drugs and alcohol. DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
