Halau hosts Christmas craft fair
Halau Kalaakeakauikawekiu, under the direction of kumu Kenneth Aloha Victor, presents a free fundraiser Christmas fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the halau location, 74-5598 Luhia St. Included in the fair will be food, ceramics and jewelry. A craft and activity station will be available for keiki for a small fee.

Free health screenings offered Saturday
The Lions Club of Kona is sponsoring free medical screenings for West Hawaii residents from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Konawaena Elementary cafeteria. The Lions Club and audiologist Dr. Kayla Smith will provide hearing screenings and Project Vision Hawaii and ophthalmologist Dr. Susan Senft will provide vision screenings for adults and children. The West Hawaii Community Health Center will offer children’s dental screening, blood sugar and blood pressure readings. Insurance counseling and translators will be available.
Marine Corps League lunch and meeting planned
The Camp Tarawa Detachment No. 1255 of the Marine Corps League will hold its monthly no-host lunch at 11:30 a.m. and meeting at 1 p.m. Saturday at the VFW Post at 74-5543 Kaiwi St. Suite 185A. All Marines and Navy Corpsmen and their spouses are invited. Dress is resort casual.

Quilters hosting exhibit and craft fair
The Laulima O Hamakua Quilters are hosting an exhibit and craft fair with items made by its weaving, spinning and knitting members. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the North Hawaii Education and Research Center.

Tutu’s House offers self-massage class
From 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at Tutu’s House in Waimea, massage therapist Chikako Hoshino-Powers will share techniques for attaining well-being through self-massage of the shoulders and neck. Some headaches, insomnia, and pain can be alleviated with our own hands. Attendees should bring one large towel and two hand towels.

Thanksgiving craft class offered for keiki
The Department of Parks and Recreation is registering participants for a Thanksgiving craft class. Attendees will paint decorative ceramic turkeys from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. Nov. 25 at Kekuaokalani Gym. The activity is open to children ages 6 through 14.
Class size is limited, so it is recommended to register early by calling Marshall Tohara at 327-3565.
Kona Amateur Radio Society holds meeting
The Kona Amateur Radio Society will hold its monthly meeting from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the south end of Wawaloli Beach Park at Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority. All members, friends and those interested in amateur radio are invited. A potluck picnic will take place and attendees are encouraged to bring a Japanese dish to share. The group meets on the forth Sunday of each month.

Domestic violence and family court information given at Tutu’s House
Joanna Sokolow, managing attorney with Legal Aid Society of Hawaii, and Aurora Delaries of Alternatives to Violence will discuss the legal definitions of domestic abuse in Hawaii and will share procedures for filing a temporary restraining order. Attendees will also learn about court proceedings. This free program will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Monday at Tutu’s House in Waimea.

Grant to benefit students with disabilities
The University of Hawaii at Hilo Scholars with Disabilities Achievement Grant honors a student with a disability for his or her superior scholastic performance. To be eligible, students must plan to enroll, or be enrolled full or part time at UH-Hilo for the spring 2015 semester. Applicants must also have a 3.0 GPA and a disability.
