Aquaponics workshop scheduled
The Hawaii Department of Agriculture will host a free workshop covering the growth potential of the aquaponics industry in Hawaii from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20 at the Hawaii Department of Agriculture Conference Room, 16 East Lanikaula St., Hilo.

Bazaar kicks off Christmas season
The Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity is kicking off the Christmas season with a holiday bazaar from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. There will be a variety of hand-crafted, new and gently used holiday items for sale including Thanksgiving decor and Christmas gifts. There will also be a bake sale and refreshments, Kona coffee and a free candy cane mouse craft for the keiki. All are welcome. The Lutheran Church is at 77-165 Lako St. in Kailua-Kona.

Cancer center fundraiser scheduled
Kona Hospital Foundation’s 13th annual Gala Fundraiser to benefit The Cancer Center at Kona Community Hospital begins at 5 p.m. Saturday in the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai ballroom. Guests will enjoy a Four Seasons buffet dinner, silent and live auctions and musical entertainment by The Bill Noble Quartet. Tickets are $150. per person; reserved tables for 10 are $1,700.

Hike explores Hawaii’s ancient forests
Hike with botanist Tim Tunison through two forests during Volcano Art Center’s “Super Kipuka Hike” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Tunison will lead hikers through Kipuka Ki and Kipuka Puaulu forests in the Mauna Loa section of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Participants should be injury-free, in average condition and should bring rain gear, closed-toe shoes, a lunch and at least one quart of water. The day begins at Volcano Art Center’s Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village where carpooling will be arranged.
