US falters late in loss to Colombia
LONDON — Teofilo “Teo” Gutierrez headed in a tiebreaking goal in the 87th minute, and Colombia rallied to beat the United States 2-1 Friday night in an exhibition at Fulham’s Craven Cottage.
Jozy Altidore converted a penalty kick in the 10th minute, his 25th international goal, after a hand ball against the South Americans. Altidore has scored just once for Sunderland this season.
Third-ranked Colombia tied the score on a 61st-minute goal by Carlos Bacca, and the Americans allowed a goal from the 86th minute on for the third straight match.
For one night, west London felt more like Barranquilla, with thousands of raucous fans wearing Colombia’s yellow jersey.
Equatorial Guinea to host 2015 African Cup
CAIRO — The Confederation of African Football said Equatorial Guinea has been chosen to host the 2015 African Cup of Nations in place of Morocco.
CAF said the dates for the tournament will remain Jan. 17-Feb. 8 after Morocco was dumped as host for demanding a postponement over Ebola fears.
Equatorial Guinea co-hosted the African Cup in 2012 with Gabon.
CAF said four cities will be used for the tournament: Malabo, Bata, Mongomo and Ebebiyin.
Equatorial Guinea’s team would be allowed to participate despite being disqualified from African Cup qualifying this year for fielding an ineligible player.
