Hawaii’s Scott Harding has been chosen as one of 10 semifinalists for the 2014 Ray Guy Award for the most outstanding punter in college football.
Selected from a field of 82 candidates, Harding becomes the first Rainbow Warrior in school history to be recognized as a semifinalist. A national body of coaches, media and former award winners will decide the three finalists, to be announced Nov. 24. Voters will then cast a second round of ballots to decide the winner.
Harding leads the nation with 67 punts, including a nation-best 27 inside the 20-yard line. He ranks second nationally with 13 punts inside the 10, seven of which have been downed at either the 1- or 2-yard line. UH’s net punting of 41.1 yards leads the Mountain West and ranks 10th nationally.
The other nine semifinalists are JK Scott (Alabama), Scott Arellano (BYU), Austin Rehkow (Idaho), Justin Vogel (Miami), Tyler Wedel ( Northern Illinois), Cameron Johnston (Ohio State), Drew Kaser (Texas A&M), Tom Hackett (Utah) and Alex Kinal (Wake Forest).
