Kailua-Kona artist Jing Jing Tsong created the images on two of the four Winter Fun stamps that were issued Oct. 23 in New York by the U.S. Postal Service.
The Forever stamps are priced at 49 cents with the theme Winter Fun on a pressure-sensitive adhesive in booklets of 20 stamps. The stamp set celebrates ice skating, making snow angels, building snowmen and bird watching.
Using bold colors and simplified details, Tsong depicts a person joyfully creating a snow angel and another affixing a carrot nose to a well-crafted snowman. Art director Ethel Kessler designed the stamps using Tsong’s illustrations. Tsong drew and then digitally composed the art. With these designs, Tsong said she hoped to capture “the magic of new snowfall and the joy of being in a moment that will melt away all too soon.”
Tsong’s work has been featured in national and international design magazines including Graphics and Communication Arts. Her illustrations also appear in the 2014 New York Times Best Selling Children’s Picture Book, “A Bucket of Blessings.” Tsong is a mother, musician and surfer who lives on Hawaii Island with her family.
