“The Fantasticks,” the award winning musical that ran for 42 years in New York City, will soon be onstage in Waimea and Honokaa. Waimea Community Theatre will open its version of the world’s longest running musical today at Parker School Theatre, Waimea. “The Fantasticks” premiered in 1960 with music by Harvey Schmidt and lyrics by Tom Jones. The musical concerns fathers anxious to encourage romance between their children and the challenges they then face. The show is directed by Felicity Johnson with assistance from David Merrin.

Performances start at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. for Sunday matinees through Nov. 30. In addition, the group will present the musical in the Honokaa People’s Theatre for a special performance Nov. 26.
Admission at the door is $18 for adults, $15 for seniors 60 and older and students and $10 for children 10 and younger. Advance tickets purchased at the following locations are discounted: Waimea General Store, Without Boundaries Gift Shop in Waimea, Waikoloa Mailbox and Suite Possibilities in Kailua-Kona. Prices for the Honokaa showing are also discounted.
