In preparation for their fifth grade Native American studies, the school’s fourth-grade summer garden class planted the three main agricultural crops of various Native American groups in North America — squash, maize (corn) and climbing beans.
When planted close together, these crops benefit each other and are referred to as The Three Sisters Garden, a Native American practice. The Three Sisters garden is featured on the 2009 Native American U.S. dollar coin.
