Sun graduates from basic training
Air Force Airman Lichuan Sun graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Sun is a 2013 graduate of Waiakea High School, Hilo.
Committee on the Status of Women meets
The Hawaii County Committee on the Status of Women will meet at 10 a.m. Friday via video conference from the Mayor’s Conference Room at West Hawaii Civic Center.

Kipuka O Ke Ola, a native Hawaiian health and wellness clinic in Waimea, provides assistance with health insurance choices available under the federal Affordable Care Act. Open enrollment will start Saturday. Qualifying events will enable some to apply prior to open enrollment. Small business owners can apply throughout the year.

Vendors invited to church bazaar
The Kauahaao Congregational Church in Waiohinu, Ka’u invites individuals and groups to be vendors at the church’s fundraising bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Entertainment and food will be available. The church is at the corner of Mamalahoa Highway, Kamaoa Road and Piano Street.
A 10-foot by 10-foot vendor space is available to any club or individual for $10. Vendors must bring their own tent, table, chairs and generator if needed.

Caregiving tips shared at the library
Gerontologist Laura Guluzzy will provide free tips on caregiving at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Kailua-Kona Public Library. She has served many organizations including the Institute on Aging as a geriatric specialist counseling elders. The program includes a presentation on Guluzzy’s book, “Inside Grammie’s Closet” with a tip guide for caregivers, relation of her own caregiving experiences and a question and answer session.

Dinner party ro benefit SKEA
The Society for Kona’s Education and Art is holding a garden party dinner and auction from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Paleaku Gardens Peace Sanctuary. The event features food, art and music. Attendees will enjoy cocktails at sunset and explore the world’s first galaxy garden. An auction will feature original art, gifts and vacation packages. All proceeds benefit the Society for Kona’s Education and Art, a nonprofit arts organization located in Honaunau.

Free ADHD workshop offered in Waimea
Hawaii Learning Resource and the Learning Disabilities Association of Hawaii are providing a free workshop on attention deficit hyperactivity disorder from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Kanu o ka Aina New Century Public Charter School, 64-1043 Hiiaka St. in Waimea.
Participants will become familiar with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and learn its characteristics including how a diagnosis is made, treatment options and educational interventions.

Plant medicine expert offers certification course
David Leonard, author and operator of the Earth Medicine Institute, will be conducting a wild crafting certification course in South Kona. This 100-hour intensive course spans five weekends and covers an in-depth curriculum of local medicinal plants and herbs.
Class dates are Saturday, Sunday and Dec. 6 and 7, Jan. 10, 11 and 31 and Feb. 1, 21 and 22.

Event celebrates Kona coffee
Celebrate Kona Day-Kona Coffee Festival is scheduled to take place from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at Hale Halawai. This is a free event. Sample local coffee and celebrate the community. West Hawaii Master Gardener Association will be giving free plant advice to home gardeners as well as selling University of Hawaii seeds and fruit fly traps, lures and baits.
