PHILADELPHIA — A woman who was abducted from a city street is resting at her home in Philadelphia, one day after she was rescued and her alleged captor arrested.
Carlesha Freeland-Gaither’s cousin says the 22-year-old nursing assistant isn’t ready to talk publicly about her three-day ordeal.
Cinquetta Barfield says the family will speak to the media Thursday evening. She says they haven’t slept since Freeland-Gaither disappeared Sunday night.
Law enforcement agents spotted Freeland-Gaither and suspect Devlin Barnes on Wednesday in a car with a broken-out back window in Maryland.
The 37-year-old Barnes is scheduled for a hearing Thursday near Baltimore on a charge of being a fugitive from justice in Virginia.
Authorities there say he’s wanted in connection with attempted capital murder, assault and malicious injury.
The Philadelphia U.S. Attorney’s office says charges haven’t been filed yet in Freeland-Gaither’s case.
