Hawaii Island police have initiated a coroner’s inquest case in connection with a body of a Keaau man found last weekend in the Hawaiian Acres subdivision.

Puna patrol officers responded to a 12:43 p.m. call Saturday and received information that a man had been cleaning up his property on Road G following a Halloween party, when he discovered a body along the northeast corner of his property.

The victim, identified on Friday as 23-year-old John Shuman, had last been seen walking in the area of the Halloween party, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

Area I Criminal Investigations Section detectives have ruled out foul play after preliminary results of an autopsy conducted Nov. 4, but are awaiting results on toxicology findings for a determination of the exact cause of death.

Anyone with information about this incident or who may know the identity of the victim should call the police department’s nonemergency line at 935-3311 or Detective Dean Uyetake at 961-2379 or duytetake@co.hawaii.hi.us. Those who prefer to remain anonymous may call the islandwide Crime Stoppers number at 961-8300.
