A cancer support group meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Teshima’s Restaurant in Honalo. People newly diagnosed with cancer and cancer survivors are welcome, as well as interested caregivers and supportive family members.
The group meets to share cancer-related issues and to lend support to one another.

Tutu’s House
hosting programs
“Introduction to the iPad” with Claire Grant, former instructor of digital technologies at San Francisco State University, will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Tutu’s House in Waimea. This class is for people who are new to the iPad or who haven’t yet gotten one and don’t know where to begin.
Keli Acquaro, Hawaii Island branch chief of the Hawaii Family Guidance Center, with the state Department of Health’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Division, will present a suicide talk from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Acquaro is also a certified trainer with LivingWorks, an organization dedicated to international suicide awareness and intervention training. Her talk explores the question, “Should we talk about suicide?” Although this program is not intended to teach suicide intervention skills, ways to support a person at risk will be discussed, and other opportunities for learning about intervention will be offered.

Community meetings address wildfire issues
The Hawaii Wildfire Management Organization will hold community input meetings to update four southern Hawaii County Community Wildfire Protection Plans. Meetings will be held at the following locations and times: 2 to 3 p.m., Tuesday, Volcano Cooper Center; 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Naalehu Elementary and Intermediate School; 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Ocean View Community Center; and 6 to 7 p.m. Nov. 5, Konawaena Elementary School.
The meetings will identify and prioritize projects to reduce the threat of wildfire to Volcano, Ka‘u, Ocean View and South Kona communities. All residents in these areas are encouraged to attend.

Estate planning workshop slated
Statistics show 70 to 80 percent of the population does not have an up-to-date will. Warren Chong, an independent associate with LegalShield, will discuss how to create a will at a Basic Estate Planning Workshop at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Suite Possibilities, Suite 102 in the Chamber of Commerce Building, Kailua-Kona. He will provide information and distribute a “Will Questionnaire” to get participants started in this process.
