The Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra with Madeline Schatz, artistic director, opens its 2014-15 season with “A Tribute to Hawaii.” Presented at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Kahilu Theatre in Waimea, Big Island’s slack key virtuoso John Keawe and composer/film maker Paul Csige are featured. Csige’s “Voyages” is a work for symphony orchestra inspired by the illustrated story “Voyage: The Discovery of Hawaii” by Herb Kawainui Kane.

‘Art Helps’ is Humane Society benefit
The High Fire Hawaii Gallery &Studio will host its fourth annual benefit sale, “Art Helps,” benefiting the Hawaii Island Humane Society from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 29. The gallery is located on bayfront in downtown Hilo at 114 Kamehameha Ave.
Items for sale range from handcrafted jewelry to original paintings by Big Island artists. On-site pet adoptions will also be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

All-day dance competition slated
Ron Montez, a seven-time dance champion, along with Tony Meredith will host an all-day dance competition in American, international, smooth and Latin formations, with a professional showcase from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Sheraton Kona Resort &Spa at Keauhou Bay.
The event is for nondancers as well as to showcase the dance routines in competition. The event is open to the public for an all-day fee of $45 per person.
