The feature presenter is bluefin tagging expert Molly Lutcavage from the Large Pelagics Research Center. The project is a cooperative research effort by PIFG, Kona fishermen and the LPRC and is sponsored by the Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council.
McGrew Rice, long-time Kona charter captain and member of the fishery council, will be at the event to discuss another cooperative project involving Kona fishermen and the council. The project is the deployment of a fish aggregation device approximately 20 miles offshore Kealakekua Bay. At the Friday public meeting, McGrew and council staff will describe the objectives of the project including enhanced fishing opportunities, voluntary data collection and cooperative research.
