A flash flood watch goes into effect at noon Friday ahead of the arrival of Tropical Storm Ana. Ana is forecast to bring heavy rain and thunderstorms to the Big Island before moving west across the remainder of the Hawaiian Islands.
The National Weather Service said Ana could bring 6 to 8 inches along the island’s southeastern, southern and western areas. Some areas could see up to a foot of rain.
In addition to possible flash flooding, excessive runoff may result in rock and mudslides, the service said.
The watch remains in effect until 6 p.m. Sunday.
A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. It does not have to be raining heavily where you are for flash flooding to occur.
